Imminent Execution of Pannir Selvam: Malaysian Police and Home Ministry Should Immediately Investigate Johor Drug Trafficking Activities
HAYAT has received information from the families of Pannir Selvam A/L Pranthaman, who has been issued a notice of execution by the Singapore Prison Service that indicates his execution will be carried out on 20 February 2025.
Pannir is a drug courier convicted in Singapore in 2014 for trafficking 51.84 grams of Diamorphine. His status as a courier was acknowledged by Singapore courts, and he provided extensive information to authorities during the investigation. The information was also given to Singaporean authorities by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) through his family via a police report.
The family lodged the police report on 31 October 2018 and 21 January 2023 respectively. The police report provided details of the drug syndicates operating in Johor Bahru based on Pannir’s information. On 12 February 2025, when the family went to inquire about the status of the investigation, they were notified that no investigating officers had been appointed based on their report.
The family has also made appeals to the Minister of Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nausition Ismail, for his intervention with the help of other MPs in September 2024 and through their lawyers in October 2024. To this day, the family members have yet to hear from the Minister.
The allegations and police report by Pannir and his families indicate organized drug trafficking activities operating freely in Johor Bahru as they are sheltered in Malaysia. Singapore authorities have no power or interest in investigating as they are within our jurisdiction.
With Pannir’s execution imminent, PDRM and the Ministry of Home Affairs have a final chance to investigate the 2018 report made about drug trafficking activities in Malaysia. Pannir is KEY to that investigation. As concerned citizens of the proliferation of drug trafficking in the country, we hereby demand immediate action from PDRM and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
